On February 18, the international music firm Universal Music Group (UMG) revealed its partnership with non-fungible token (NFT) ecosystem Curio. According to information from Universal Music Group, Curio will be a “dedicated global platform for future fully licensed NFT productions” for UMG’s labels including recording artists throughout the globe. Curio will also be used to support “future NFT initiatives from UMG’s unequalled portfolio of global artists and labels, giving greater scalability and flexibility to issue real fan-oriented collectibles, carefully handpicked for each project”.
Following the success of UMG’s NFT metaverse music group project, which included four Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs, the music firm has announced a new relationship with Curio NFT. Curio, an NFT marketplace platform, debuted in 2020 and has since issued over 75,000 NFTs.
Universal Music Group is a well-known company with origins in the music industry dating back to 1934. Universal Studios, Inc. became the parent company of UMG in 1996, and the music branch of the international firm was renamed Universal Music Group.
Sting, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Adele, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Coldplay, and others are among UMG’s many recording artists. NFTs, according to Michael Nash, executive vice president of UMG’s digital strategy unit, are an excellent method to communicate with a recording artist’s fans.
