After inflammatory comments surfaced, Millegan was voted out of a critical post at ENS

Brantly Millegan has been voted out of his position as a community steward of the Ethereum Name Service governance organisation (ENS).

After a tweet from 2016 surfaced over the weekend, a vote to remove Millegan from the ENS DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) was held on Sunday afternoon. Millegan characterised homosexuals as evil, disputed the existence of transgenderism, and referred to contraception as a perversion in the tweet.

ENS is a well-known provider of Ethereum-related domain names in the form of NFTs that can be used as usernames in crypto ecosystems.

ENS reported in a blog post that a majority of its community stewards voted to remove Millegan from his position as a community steward, with 75% in favour. Millegan, a Catholic, defended his views in a recent Twitter space session, according to the article. He also stated on Twitter that he supports “mainstream conventional Christian values expressed by the world’s greatest religion.”

Over the weekend, the episode prompted a firestorm of criticism on social media. Millegan’s ideas, according to many observers, including Uniswap Labs CEO Hayden Adams, are diametrically opposed to the DeFi and web3 mantras. In a blog post, ENS shared those concerns. Millegan could face more disciplinary action, according to ENS, including immediate suspension while the community decides what to do; being asked to step down from his leadership roles at ENS (he is currently director of operations); removal as a director of the ENS foundation via a DAO vote; and removal from True Names Limited, a Singapore-based non-profit entity that leads the development of ENS.

Millegan was contacted for comment, but did not answer by the time this article was published.

It’s a wrap for this story.
