Hackers transferred large quantities of bitcoin stolen from the crypto exchange Bitfinex 6 years ago early Tuesday.
During Asian hours, malicious actors moved 10,000 bitcoins valued more than USD 383 million to an unidentified wallet, according to the Twitter user Whale Alert. The bitcoins moved accounted for 8 percentage points of the total 119,756 BTC stolen from Bitfinex in 2016.
The missing bitcoin was last transferred in April 2021, when hackers transferred over USD 700 million dollars ’ worth of currency to unknown wallets amid a bull run fueled by cryptocurrency company Coinbase then-impending Nasdaq IPO. Last year, the majority of bitcoin linked to the Bitfinex breach was being monitored and banned. Because of that hackers will have a difficult time withdrawing funds.

To put it another way, the recent movement of the hijacked coins poses no risk to bitcoin.
