Another hydroelectric facility has been rescued with Bitcoin mining. The idea that Bitcoin incentivizes green energy may appear convenient to the untrained eye. Anyway, today’s topic is New York’s Mechanicville Hydroelectric Plant. Located in the Town of Halfmoon, Saratoga County, on the Hudson River’s edge. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, which is why it was never demolished.
The facility is “the oldest continually running hydroelectric station in the United States,” according to the Times Union, and it “was nearly demolished.”
