Another hydroelectric facility has been rescued with Bitcoin mining. The idea that Bitcoin incentivizes green energy may appear convenient to the untrained eye. Every day, though, more actual cases emerge. As in the case of the Navajo Nation. Or consider this Costa Rican electrical plant. China, on the other hand, outlawed Bitcoin mining, and some hydropower projects were forced to close and sold.
Anyway, today’s topic is New York’s Mechanicville Hydroelectric Plant. Located in the Town of Halfmoon, Saratoga County, on the Hudson River’s edge. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, which is why it was never demolished.
The facility is “the oldest continually running hydroelectric station in the United States,” according to the Times Union, and it “was nearly demolished.”
It’s a wrap for this story.
