On June 23, Solana Mobile, a Solana Labs affiliate, announced the launch of the Solana Mobile Stack software (SMS) for Android and revealed its plan for a new smartphone named Saga. Solana Labs represents the Solana blockchain network’s founders and major contributors.

Solana Mobile Stack (SMS)
Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) is an open-source Android application toolkit that will allow native Android web3 apps to run on the Solana blockchain using the Seed Vault safe custody mechanism. The protocol allows for rapid transaction verification while keeping private keys isolated from wallets, applications, and the Android operating system.
The SMS will also include Mobile Wallet Adapter protocol on all smartphones, not only Android. The Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) is a model for wallets & programs that lets programmers build rich user experiences on Solana, the world’s most performant blockchain, and is engineered to operate with Android.
Finally, SMS features Solana Pay for Android, which allows for mobile payments using the platform. The SMS development kit is now available for download.
Solana Labs will also create a new Solana dapp Store for mobile devices, allowing customers to browse Solana-powered Web3 apps and wallets for free.
Android smartphone Saga
Solana Labs will develop its own Android smartphone, Saga, to aid in the dissemination of Solana applications on mobile. The smartphone will include premier specifications like a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU, 12GB RAM, a 6.67″ OLED display, and 512GB storage. Pre-orders for the Saga mobile phone are now being accepted for delivery in early 2023.
The phone is estimated to retail for roughly $1,000. Solana Labs is accepting $100 deposits and will put Solana developers first on the list. Early adopters will receive a limited-edition NFT to commemorate the phone’s introduction, as well as a “first ticket to influencing the future of the SMS platform,” according to a press statement.
Solana co-founder Raj Gokal on the launch said:
“Developers can now bring the power of Solana to the computers in our pockets, not just our backpacks. Solana can revolutionize so much of what we do everyday, but we need to open the possibilities for decentralized apps on our mobile devices in order for this potential to be realized.”
