According to the results of a recent NordVPN study, seven out of ten Americans, or 68% of study participants, were aware of the risks associated with cryptocurrency. The study also discovered that nearly all respondents (69%) “had some awareness of what cryptocurrency is.” Despite their knowledge of cryptocurrencies, the surveyed Americans voiced concern about these digital currencies “becoming the standard for online purchases.”
According to a breakdown of the risks identified in the survey, 59% of respondents were aware that trading platforms and exchanges could be hacked. Approximately 57% are aware of the possibility of account takeover, while 56% are aware of phishing emails or texts alerting them to a shift in funds that may be used by criminals.
Meanwhile, the report praised the observed high levels of crypto knowledge, stating that “the more information individual consumers have about cyber risks, the better equipped they’ll be to protect themselves.”
