Coinbase introduces voter registration site to boost community participation

Coinbase announced the launch of a voter registration and education initiative on August 25 via a blog post, which included a voter registration site as a direct response to community issues. Coinbase has created a voter registration tool as part of a larger education campaign to provide the crypto community with tools to participate in crucial policy discussions taking place across the United States.

According to the blog post, consumers regularly express a desire to participate in these debates and want credible information, tools, and support to help them be heard.  Coinbase, chief policy officer, Faryar Shirzad remarked:

“The leaders they elect in November will make critical decisions about the regulation of crypto, blockchain, and Web3”.

He added:

“We don’t regularly talk about politics here at Coinbase, but we’ve always said that we will engage in the political process at moments when it relates to our mission of increasing economic freedom in the world.”

According to the policy director, Coinbase employees do not “frequently discuss politics. “As part of a business that often shied away from US politics, CEO Brian Armstrong made waves in September 2020 with a blog post in which he characterised the cryptocurrency exchange as “laser focused on completing its objective.”

The CEO of Coinbase clarified that the crypto exchange would participate “if there is a bill presented surrounding crypto,” but not on matters such as healthcare or education. Armstrong removed a link to a blog post featuring readily disproved political myths from his Twitter account in October 2020. He has now met with numerous US lawmakers and posted about crypto-related topics on his social media platforms.
